Job/Internship Description

DEA's Boise, Pocatello, Coeur d'Alene and Spokane offices are seeking qualified interns to fill a Civil/Transportation Intern need to support our Roads and Highways group and Smart Mobility (traffic) group while working on transportation-related projects. The Roads and Highways intern will be based in Coeur d'Alene and the Smart Mobility intern will be based in Spokane. Successful candidates will work on multidiscipline projects performing independent engineering calculations and design using specialized technical skills, experience and engineering judgment to transform concept designs into construction drawings and technical specifications. Design work may include freeway, highway and roadway design, signing and pavement marking plans, traffic signal plans, street improvements, utility plans, traffic control plans, storm water, technical writing, quantity calculations, and construction documents, and all supporting documentation. Analysis work may include intersection and roadway segment capacity and level of service, highway safety, signal warrants, and other traffic studies. The candidates would also be eager to accept new challenges to diversify their skills by not only performing transportation engineering work, but also construction observation and general civil design. Finally, successful candidates will have good interpersonal and communication skills, positive attitude, and a passion for work.

Other duties include:

* Coordinate projects with supervisor, project managers, and firm staff.

* Provide sketches and/or detailed layout information to design staff for incorporation into the construction drawings.

* Designs, prepares and analyzes preliminary and final plans in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microstation/InRoads software.

* Prepares and designs street improvement plans, public improvement plans, and rough and precise grading plans.

* Analyzes maps, reports, drawings, as-builts and test results for design projects.

* Preparation and modification of reports, specifications, estimates, and designs for projects.

* Complete capacity, level of service, and safety analyses for transportation facilities.

* Provide project specific technical information to the Project Manager for incorporation into the project specifications.

Basic Qualifications:

* Applicants must be in the pursuit of an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, with at least 2+ years of completed course work.

* Microsoft Office (Excel and word), Microstation/Inroads, and AutoCAD Civil 3D skills are recommended

* Applicant must have a valid driver's license and clear motor vehicle report

* Ability to communicate and work in a team-oriented environment
