Position Summary:

The Warn Group is comprised of multiple premium brands, and are the leaders in vehicle recovery, and off-roading equipment.

The Design Engineer II working at our Factor 55 location in Boise, ID will be working with minimal supervision, this position selects and applies standard engineering principles and procedures in the design and development of new product/production process or the modification of existing product/production processes. Makes decisions on engineering problems and methods having an important effect on major company programs and customer's needs. This position is a go-to technical resource that will create, develop, and implement innovative product designs through efficient manufacturing systems, designing and implementing new and/or modifications to product features, tooling, fixtures, and machinery. Alongside working with operations personnel and suppliers to improve product design, manufacturing, or assembly, with a focus on utmost efficiency, cost, and quality. May be assigned to multiple small and large projects simultaneously.

Essential Functions:

  • May be assigned project support or responsibility for projects involving tooling budgets up to $300,000 and potential annual sales of up to $2,500,000.
  • May coordinate multiple small projects or large projects simultaneously.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other Warn functional groups, suppliers, and customers.
  • Identifies root causes of problems; recommends and/or implements corrective measures.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable company and customer quality requirements in all assigned programs, functions, products, and areas.
  • Supports efforts ensuring critical metrics are being continuously improved, including customer CTQ fulfillment, project on-time performance, and engineering quality.
  • Estimates engineering specifications, time, and costs necessary to complete projects.
  • Research and tests products to analyze performance, design, and failure mode.
  • May directs the efforts of drafters, designers, technicians, or other team members to assure successful project completion.
  • May manage activities and support projects within the team, between internal teams, and projects in support of customer expectations and new product development.
  • Contributes to creative product conceptualization and Warn intellectual property.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • May participate in the Warn Industries selection process as necessary.
  • May be assigned engineering maintenance responsibilities for major product lines.
  • Hands-on work on shop floor as job requires.
  • Represents Warn with dignity, professionalism and good faith at events and customer contact and interactions.
  • Accountable for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance in assigned area. Responsible for design and operating effectiveness of internal controls, including a self-assessment and report to management.
  • Accountable for developing and monitoring processes and practices necessary for legal and ethical compliance in assigned area.
  • Responsible for prompt and regular attendance on-site in Boise, ID.
  • Work safely and without injury.
  • Collaborates with senior engineers to design cost effective manufacturing layouts and building ergonomics for new product lines.
  • Creates and improves work instructions.
  • Understands tolerances; how they relate to manufacturability.
  • Understands manufacturing processes/methods and able to recommend cost alternative solutions.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure Intellectual Property and Patents are maintained.
  • May participate in The Warn Groups selection process as necessary.

Availability Requirements:

Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions of this position, the importance of personal interactions with coworkers, and the availability of job-related tools, equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires the ability to be present on-site, and available through communication tools, such as Microsoft Teams.


The required number of hours / week will vary depending on what is required to efficiently perform the job duties of this position. This position will require availability and accessibility to respond to and address emergencies and critical situations outside of normal business operating hours in the early mornings, evenings and/or during weekends.

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing or related Engineering discipline required.
  • Two or more years of professional experience
  • Two or more years of hands-on engineering or product design is required.
  • Two or more years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment; knowledge of machining, and assembly practices is required.

Required Qualifications, Technical Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to perform analytical modeling and adhere to general design principles.
  • Product design and development experience of high-volume consumer products.
  • Working knowledge of CAD programs - preferably NX and/or SolidWorks.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook).
  • Working knowledge of Quality Tools (SPC, GD&T, FMEA, DFA/M, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of FEA (finite element analysis) preferred.
  • Working knowledge of JDE ERP systems is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of various rapid prototyping techniques preferred.
  • Ability to facilitate activities necessary to a projects completion.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills commensurate with the job tasks and position necessary to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external customers while providing exceptional quality of work and outstanding customer service. Ability to present information in a manner designed to educate or inform other team members and customers in one-on-one or group interactions as directed.
  • The ability and willingness to work extended hours as necessary is required.
  • Ability to continuously improve and learn new skills.
  • Strong technical, troubleshooting, problem solving, research, organizational and analytical skills combined with the ability to prioritize tasks and establish and meet deadlines. Ability to address multiple tasks while remaining flexible with changing priorities and deadlines with multiple complex assignments, projects and issues.
  • Must be flexible and open to others' ideas and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated use of well-reasoned decision making with a high attention to detail regarding organization, planning, workflow, and project prioritization to complete tasks efficiently and accurately. Uses a proactive approach to problems and challenges and react quickly and decisively in critical situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Highly ethical, self-motivated individual with ability to work independently and/or with limited direction, while consistently demonstrating collaborative, respectful and productive work habits.

Language Skills:

The successful candidate exhibits the ability to read, write, verbalize, and comprehend instructions and correspondence in the English language. In addition, the right Help Desk Technician exhibits strong oral and written communication skills commensurate with the job tasks and position. Must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external customers while providing exceptional quality of work and outstanding customer service is essential.

Mathematical Skills:

Must have mathematical skills equivalent to those required under education/experience requirement.
